Northern Local board approves 2024-25 fees, contracts, staffing and Glenford roof change order

At its Aug. 15 meeting the Northern Local Schools Board of Education approved July financial reports, athletic and meal prices for 2024–25, a five-year exclusive beverage agreement with Pepsi, Change Order #3 for the Glenford roof project, multiple personnel actions, and a resolution to join the META Bus Purchasing Program.
The Northern Local Schools Board of Education met Aug. 15, 2024, in the district office board room and approved a slate of routine financial items, personnel actions and contracts, President Dale DeRolph said. The meeting opened at 6:30 p.m., and the board heard a demonstration from Triple Threat K-9 before taking votes.
The board unanimously approved the July 2024 financial reports and a budget adjustment that included a $2,000 appropriation to high school cheerleading. The board also approved two memoranda of understanding: one with OAPSE addressing salary placement for the bus mechanic and one with the Northern Local Education Association (NLEA) to split the chorale supplemental at 60% competitive show choir and 40% choir.
Administrators recommended and the board approved athletic admission prices for the 2024–25 school year (single-event tickets set at $5 for adults and $3 for students) and a range of season-pass options, and set adult meal prices at $3.50. The board approved a five-year exclusive beverage agreement with Pepsi beginning Aug. 1, 2024, as presented, and approved Change Order #3 with Revere Roofing for the Glenford Roof Replacement Project.
The board accepted donations from local organizations and individuals, including apparel for the boys varsity soccer team from Miller Farms, gift cards from WINGS St. Paul Church to assist Glenford Elementary families, and school supplies and clothing from a community donor. It adopted a resolution to participate in the META Bus Purchasing Program for the 2024–25 school year and approved disposal of several old or damaged library items. The board also approved a transfer of $20,000 from the High School Support Fund to the AMVETS Scholarship Fund.
On personnel matters the board approved a retirement effective Dec. 1, 2024 (Maureen Snider, educational assistant at Somerset Elementary); degree advancements for several staff members; multiple certified and non-certified hires and substitute lists for the 2024–25 school year, including hiring Travis Baumgardt as bus mechanic (8 hours per day, Step 20) effective Aug. 14, 2024. The board approved Holy Trinity summer tutors to be paid from auxiliary funds, a $10,000 supplemental stipend for Mike Rodich (Connections Academy), and a band volunteer for the coming school year. All employment-related motions recorded 4–0 roll-call approvals.
On policy, the board approved final reading of board policies po6423 (Use of Credit Cards) and po7450 (Property Inventory). Later in the evening the board entered executive session at 7:55 p.m. for matters required to be kept confidential by federal law or state statute and returned to open session at 8:31 p.m. The meeting adjourned following a unanimous motion.
