Kings County board proclaims July 4, 2026, as America’s 250th anniversary; program includes anthem and remarks

The Kings County Board of Supervisors voted to adopt a resolution declaring July 4, 2026, as America’s 250th anniversary and encouraged residents to join local commemorations.

Alex C. Walker, administrative analyst for Kings County administration, told the board that America250, a nonpartisan nonprofit, is coordinating a nationwide commemoration and outlined the elements of the county resolution, including encouragement for staff and departments to mark the milestone. "To promote shared experiences, all county employees were invited to participate by wearing red, white, and blue," Walker said during his presentation.

Chair opened the item by noting the county chamber had been decorated for the occasion and invited guests to the lectern after the adoption. Following the board’s unanimous vote to adopt the proclamation, a county staff member introduced Molly Schuler, who performed the national anthem. Several board members praised the performance; the chair said the performance was moving.
