Roots Rising seeks fencing, apprenticeship plans highlighted to Pittsfield preservation panel

Jessica Veccia of Roots Rising presented the Farm and Education Center application to the Community Preservation Committee on March 16, describing completed site work, phased priorities, and volunteer support. Veccia said the property totals about 6.5 acres and that the organization employs an experienced farmer to oversee production.
Veccia said Roots Rising aims to begin an apprenticeship program in 2027. She told the committee that Community Preservation Act funds would be used only for eligible components and that specific uses of CPA money will depend on the availability and restrictions of other funding sources; the organization’s immediate priority, she said, is deer fencing to protect crops.
Committee member Carol Nichols praised the organization’s work, and Paula Albro asked about funding sources and which project elements would be covered by CPA funds. No formal vote was taken at the March 16 meeting.
