Pittsfield outlines accessibility and bank-stabilization plans for Pontoosuc Lake Park

Jim McGrath of the City of Pittsfield presented on March 16 a multi-part proposal for Pontoosuc Lake Park that would add lake access stairs on the south side along Hancock Road and at the end of a boardwalk, stabilize eroding banks, and plant native vegetation.
McGrath described the proposal as improving accessibility to lake water and noted prior improvements made at the park. He said the old city beach area is being converted into a vegetated wetland. Committee member Victoria Edwards asked about the project timeline; McGrath said that with permitting they hope to begin construction in the fall.
The committee did not take a funding vote at the March 16 meeting. Materials accompanying the presentation identified related dam improvement costs and included illustrations of proposed stair designs and boardwalk access.
