Michiana council approves new auditor contract, pavilion fees and pickleball repairs

The Village of Michiana council approved several administrative actions at its July 12, 2024 meeting, including a three-year auditor contract, updated rental fees for village facilities and authorization for repairs to the pickleball courts.
Tim McCarthy moved to approve a three-year audit contract with Siegfried Crandall at $12,000 per year after Kruggel & Lawton reduced services to smaller clients; Nancy Thill seconded. Council approved the contract by roll call, 4 ayes and 0 nays. The agreement includes a clause allowing the Village to terminate after the first annual audit if it is not satisfied.
The council also set rental rates for the new pavilion at $100, hall rental for residents at $300 and for non-residents at $400, and increased the refundable deposit from $300 to $500. Tim McCarthy made the motion to adopt the new fees; Nancy Thill seconded and the motion passed. Council indicated fees will be revisited once Village Hall renovations are complete.
On recreation infrastructure, Council authorized up to $5,000 to repair cracks on the pickleball court. Karen Harty presented a $4,300 quote from Seal Coating (one-year guarantee); Brian Cassidy moved to proceed with repairs up to $5,000 with Tim McCarthy reviewing details and Rick Reitz coordinating scheduling so repairs do not conflict with Day Camp use. Nancy Thill seconded and the motion passed.
Routine financial business moved forward: Tim McCarthy moved to approve minutes from multiple June and July meetings and to accept the treasurer's report; Mike Mumper seconded both motions and each passed. The council approved the check register for $117,647.67 after a motion by McCarthy and a second by Brian Cassidy.
The council noted that the Police Contract is still under review by Village Attorney Sara Senica and was not finalized at the meeting. No formal vote on the police contract occurred.
What happens next: The auditor contract takes effect under the agreed three-year terms; the administration will schedule the pickleball repairs and apply the new facility-fee structure unless council revisits the rates after renovations.
