Tom Hiserodt interviewed June 18 for the open mid-term seat on the Bluff Planning & Zoning Commission, telling commissioners he has lived in Bluff for 11 years and wants to help address abandoned and run-down homes in town.
"I feel a sense of obligation to give back to the town," Hiserodt said, adding that he supports the town's lighting ordinance to protect dark skies. He described a past example from his teaching career when he helped defuse a tense parent meeting by setting expectations and ensuring fair treatment among participants.
Malia Collins, chair of the Planning & Zoning Commission, said the panel will discuss recommendations and forward them to the Town Council after the commission’s first July meeting. Collins called the interview during the commission's June 18 work session; commissioners present included Anne Brown and Marcia Hadenfeldt. Erin Nelson served as town staff and noted administrative next steps.
Hiserodt confirmed he can meet the commission's time and technology requirements and that he is a Bluff resident. The interview was the only applicant appearance for the vacancy; Collins thanked Hiserodt and outlined that P&Z's recommendations will be addressed at the July meeting.
The commission did not vote on the appointment during the June 18 work session; the appointment process will continue at the next regular meeting.
