Northern Local board adopts 2025–26 tax budget after public hearing

The Northern Local School District Board of Education adopted its 2025–26 Alternative Tax Budget at the Jan. 9 meeting following a public budget hearing.
Treasurer Jennie Clifton presented the tax budget required by the Perry County Budget Commission, explaining legal deadlines, how the tax budget differs from the district’s five-year forecast, and what the document includes: a breakdown of taxes levied, projected revenues and expenditures for each fund, and a schedule of outstanding debt. Clifton also reviewed the Ohio Revised Code requirements governing the budgetary process.
After the presentation, the board moved to adopt the tax budget and directed the Treasurer to submit the document to the County Auditor by Jan. 20, 2025. The motion passed by roll call vote, 5–0.
The tax budget sets the district’s revenue and expenditure projections for the coming year and is a required step before the county-level budget commission considers the district’s requests. With adoption, the Treasurer will file the submitted package with the Perry County Auditor for the next stage of the statutory review process.
