The Northern Local Schools Board of Education on Sept. 19 accepted multiple personnel changes and approved a large roster of substitutes and volunteers.
The board accepted resignations from Amanda Krofft (8th grade girls basketball coach), Kirk Washburn (high school assistant track coach), Adam Huffman (high school boys head track coach) and Angela Sheets (assistant cook, effective Aug. 11, 2024). The board also approved an estimated eight‑week FMLA/maternity leave for Jenna McCandlish to begin Nov. 19, 2024, and approved a certified contract correction placing Kathryn Stepanovich as a second‑grade teacher at Somerset Elementary, Step 1.
Administratively recommended certified substitutes (MVESC) and a long list of non‑certified hires and substitutes were approved; several appointments were listed as contingent on successful FBI/BCI background checks. The board approved supplementals for the 2024–25 school year (JD Walters, boys head track coach; Trent Smith, assistant track coach, throws). The board also approved payment for athletic event student workers and high school work study students at the Ohio minimum wage, to be paid from the Athletic Fund.
The board considered and approved an extensive list of volunteers for band, building and Ag/FFA activities. The volunteers motion passed with a recorded roll call of three ayes and two abstentions: Mrs. Cains, Mrs. Miller and President DeRolph voted aye; Mr. Dupler and Mr. Hogan abstained. Several volunteer approvals were noted as pending FBI/BCI background checks where required.
All other employment items on the personnel motion passed by roll call, 5–0, as recorded in the minutes.
