A group of Sanbornton residents presented a petition asking the Selectboard to restore longer Saturday hours at the town transfer station and to reduce Tuesday hours, saying the current year‑round schedule makes access difficult for people who work Monday through Friday.
"The new hours create a hardship for people who work Monday through Friday," said Robert Flanders, who handed the petition to the board. Andrew Basbas added that his review of commuting and working patterns shows about half of Sanbornton’s population are working adults and that the current schedule does not serve many residents.
Selectman Brandon Deacon responded that the board adopted the current, year‑round schedule in September 2025 at the Transfer Station Manager’s request and that the change added roughly 50 open hours annually. Transfer Station Manager Shauna Goutier told the Selectboard the year‑round hours and added Tuesday were requested by multiple customers and make it easier to manage brush and metal piles.
The Selectboard thanked the petitioners for collecting the signatures and data. Deacon said the board would forward the information to Manager Goutier to see whether operational adjustments are feasible, but no vote or schedule change was made at the meeting.
Next steps: staff will deliver the petition and supporting data to the Transfer Station Manager for operational review; the Selectboard did not set a public hearing or vote during the June 17 meeting.
