Michiana planning commission moves to update master plan; tree board schedules plantings

The Village of Michiana’s Planning Commission is moving forward on a structured update to the Village Master Plan and has asked the council to pause Sport Courts construction while the plan is developed.
Planning Commission Chair Julie Bonello said the committee will follow the 2005 Master Plan format as it drafts a letter of intent and an RFP to solicit consultants. Council member Mike Botelho announced a Planning Commission workshop for Sept. 13 and successfully moved that Sport Courts construction be paused until the Master Plan framework is completed; the council approved the motion 5–0.
Separately, Tree Board member Nancy Thill reported that trees purchased through a grant will be planted in the park on Sept. 24 and that the board is preparing paperwork to show grant expenditures; the grant completion date is Sept. 1, 2025 and spending documentation is due Sept. 30. Thill noted that AEP has resumed tree trimming operations and invited residents to an Arbor Day event on Oct. 5 at 11 a.m.
Chair Bonello will report updates on consultant selection and Master Plan milestones to the council as they are available.
