Utilities Committee hears plant assessment progress; Edgerton, Abbey Road sewer projects updated; minutes approved

The North Royalton Utilities Committee on June 2 heard updates on a multi-part facility assessment of the city’s A & B wastewater plants, progress on Edgerton Road and Abbey Road sewer projects, and approved committee minutes.
Wastewater Superintendent Ed Haller said two-thirds of the assessment workshops are complete and that one remaining workshop will focus on secondary treatment topics including aeration, final settling, effluent filtration and disinfection. Haller said the consultant will compile recommendations into a report he expects by the end of 2026. Mayor Paul F. Marnecheck asked that the final report explain why the city remains independent from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District.
City Engineer Matthew Glass said driveway restoration work for the Edgerton Road sanitary sewer project is essentially finished, with only a small amount of restoration left. Glass said the city will begin the process to assess project costs to adjacent properties after council returns from recess in September. Mayor Marnecheck relayed a resident’s favorable comment about contractor coordination and traffic control; Councilmember Sarah Wojslaw also praised the contractor.
On Abbey Road, Haller said staff continue SCADA integration and HVAC modifications and are awaiting a subcontractor proposal; he estimated another two to three months before those pieces are complete.
Procedural business included approval of the May 6, 2026 Utilities Committee minutes on a 3-0 vote (moved by Chair Matt Coleman, seconded by Vice Chair Ed Cyngier). Chair Coleman later moved to adjourn; the motion, seconded by Gary Petrusky, passed 3-0 and the meeting ended at 6:11 p.m.
No new business was raised at the June 2 meeting.
