The Town of Washington Select Board reported April 30 that the Valley Road reconstruction project is starting this week and traffic will be routed over a temporary bridge, with motorists warned to expect minor delays and avoid tractor trailers.
Ed Thayer (Public Works) told the board the highway department will assist with the installation and that Public Works will be ready for the temporary bridge next week. Thayer also said the department approved repairs and costs for the grader and will remove stumps at the library site, adding loam, compost and seed to restore the area.
Lieutenant Mark Dressel told the board a police cruiser was in the shop that morning but that its sensors had been fixed. Dressel said he will help manage traffic control on Valley Road during the work next week.
Fire Chief Shawn Atkins submitted the department's monthly activity report covering April 23–28, 2026, recording three rescue calls and zero fire calls, and informed the board the firehouse was experiencing trouble with its alarms; the board did not record a decision on alarm repairs during the meeting.
Costs for grader repairs were discussed and approved by the Select Board; the minutes record approval but do not list a dollar amount for those repairs. The board also noted that Class VI roads are open and that Jim Dumias will open restrooms at Camp Morgan for upcoming events.
