Police Chief Greg Hall briefed the council on license-plate reader (LPR) technology, recommending the Flock system based on his review of performance and reliability. Hall said the department is seeking to acquire one or two units in the current fiscal year with the possibility of adding one or two more in the next fiscal year. Installation locations suggested include the Hwy 80 on/off ramps through the commercial area.
Chief Hall said funding for initial units exists in the police department budget and staff are exploring grant opportunities to offset costs. Councilmembers expressed general agreement that the technology would be useful and directed the City Clerk to prepare a resolution for formal consideration at the next meeting. No procurement occurred at this meeting.
