Council members discussed ongoing sewer-connection work for the newer West Branch Village addition and a persistent flume issue that prevents the current arrangement from being a permanent solution.
City staff and council agreed that installing a dedicated water meter for the new addition (Lou Henry Ln. and Grant St.) and repositioning the existing meter to read the original village would allow automatic, usage-based billing: one automated bill for the original village area and a second automated bill for the new addition that would include both water and sewer charges. The approach is intended to remove manual billing and the temporary $50-per-unit manual charge now in place for units on the new streets.
The council directed the City Clerk to assemble options, requirements and estimated costs for the metering approach and bring them back for consideration at the next meeting. No vote was taken; the item remains a staff direction.
