Court approves continuation of county health program services and appoints veteran service officer

The Harrison County Commissioners Court approved continuing a set of optional services provided through the Harrison County Indian Health Care Program for fiscal year 2025–26. A program representative (Miss Dean) said the optional services — which the program has provided for years and which include counseling services added two years ago — should remain unchanged for the coming year. The court approved continuing the services by voice vote.
Separately, human resources/veterans staff reported that, together with the state veteran service supervisor, they interviewed two candidates and recommended appointing Ruth (the transcript contains two spellings: 'Ruth Ahmed' in the agenda and 'Ruth Hamid' in staff remarks) to fill the Harrison County veteran service officer position. Staff said she is a U.S. Army veteran with relevant experience and that certification is expected within a year; commissioners asked whether the certification cost would be covered by the state veteran service office or by the county. Staff said they would follow up to determine who would pay for certification costs. The court approved the appointment by motion and voice vote.
The court also approved a small equipment purchase for a JP office (copier/scanner for $1,283.83) during the same agenda segment. No further debate was recorded on these consent items.
