Pleasantville — The City Council on July 6 adopted Ordinance No. 6, which amends the city code to authorize provisions related to a part‑time tax assessor, and approved a package of resolutions and bill‑list payments, officials said.
Council Chair (Chair) opened the public hearing on Ordinance 6 and, after no public speakers, advanced the measure to adoption by unanimous roll call. The council also moved Ordinance 7 (various city code amendments) and Ordinance 8 (amendments to Chapter 235 on sewers and sewer disposal) to second readings scheduled for July 20.
The council approved Resolution 133, authorizing change order No. 2 to decrease the contract with Command Company Incorporated. According to staff, the contract price was reduced from $3,685,821.77 to $3,656,806.80 — a decrease of $29,014.97 — and the item was recorded as the contractor’s final payment.
CFO (CFO) walked members through the bill list and purchase orders. She flagged a monthly $5,500 charge to New Jersey American Water tied to the recreation-center splash pad; a $1,442.48 insurance‑funded purchase of a computer for the rec center; and a DEP grant‑funded final payment of $94,078.94 for Unity Park. “Once this is approved, I got all my people working together… Once this is approved, I’m ready,” the CFO said about the Unity Park reimbursement timeline.
Council also approved a second installment payment of $51,187 for ShotSpotter. A council member asked the police department to produce a report on how many alerts the ShotSpotter system has generated and resulting outcomes; staff said they would follow up.
The council approved an add‑on, Resolution 136, renewing a shared‑services/project‑management agreement with the County Improvement Authority for renovations at 121 West Park Avenue. When asked whether construction fencing would be installed around the site, project staff (Buchanan) said work should begin immediately and that fencing arrangements would be confirmed after a preconstruction meeting scheduled the next morning.
The meeting closed after council approval of the bill list and members offered congratulations to recent city events and the newly pinned firefighters. Ordinances 7 and 8 are scheduled for second readings on July 20.
