Zachary council approves introduction of three ordinances, directs zoning map hearings

The Mayor and Council of the City of Zachary on Feb. 24, 2026, unanimously approved the introduction of three ordinances and passed a resolution directing the Planning & Zoning Commission to hold public hearings on proposed zoning map amendments.
John LeBlanc moved to introduce Ordinance 2026-01, which proposes text amendments to add and revise definitions for bed-and-breakfasts, drive-through hours, building materials and accessory buildings; Brandy Westmoreland seconded the motion, and the council voted unanimously in favor. The ordinance was introduced for further consideration and public hearing at a later date.
The council also introduced Ordinance 2026-02, authored to amend the code of ordinances regarding obligations of persons performing excavation, ground-disturbing, boring or ground-breaking activities within the city. The motion to introduce was made by Brandy Westmoreland, seconded by John LeBlanc, and approved unanimously.
Councilman LeBlanc moved to introduce Ordinance 2026-03, which would amend the code regarding customer noncompliance with repair of backflow prevention assemblies or methods; Councilwoman Ambre DeVirgilio seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. (The transcript spelling for this item contained a typographical error; the correct industry term is “backflow prevention assemblies.”)
Separately, the council approved Resolution 2026-05, in accordance with the UDC, to direct the Planning & Zoning Commission to hold public hearings and make recommendations on zoning map amendments. The resolution was moved by John LeBlanc and seconded by Jennifer Landry and passed on a unanimous vote.
All three ordinance introductions and the resolution were approved on first reading as introductions only; no final adoption or ordinance numbers beyond the introduction stage were recorded in the meeting minutes. Further public notice, hearings and subsequent readings will follow the city’s established procedures.
