RSU 23 board adopts employee-harassment and homeless-student procedures; superintendent highlights flu clinic and testing window

RSU 23 School Board members met Oct. 17 at Old Orchard Beach Town Hall and unanimously approved a set of personnel and student policies while receiving routine operational updates from Superintendent John Suttie.
The board accepted second readings and adopted ACAB 2024 (Harassment of Employees), its related complaint procedures (ACAB R1 2024 and ACAB R2 2024), and JFABD 2024 (Education of Homeless Students) with JFABD-R 2024 (procedure) on a motion moved by David Boudreau and seconded by Donna Moutsatsos. The meeting record notes the motion carried with an "all in favor" vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the minutes.
In his superintendent's report, John Suttie announced a flu clinic at LMS scheduled for Monday, Oct. 21, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., and said the district is completing fall MTY assessments with the testing window closing on Wednesday, Oct. 25. He also said Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, will be a remote day for the high school. Suttie thanked teachers, the technology department and others for assistance with testing and publicly acknowledged board member David Boudreau on his final meeting for his nine years of service.
Student Representative Joana Massanga updated the board on extracurricular activities, reporting that the hydroponic lettuce project is underway, fall sports are wrapping up with girls soccer entering postseason play and football positioned for playoffs in two weeks, and that the robotics club will compete Nov. 16 at York. Massanga also noted a new Natural Helpers club and upcoming winter-sports sign-ups.
Principal Ben Harris and Dean of Students Bethany Rocheleau presented a State of Jameson School update; the minutes note that Harris has been invited to speak at the Maine School Administrators Association conference next month. The full presentation was recorded on the meeting video.
Finance committee chair David Boudreau told the board the budget remains on track but insurance premiums are rising. In closing business, Craig Evans reported the Building Needs committee did not meet this month. A motion to adjourn, moved by Boudreau and seconded by Moutsatsos, passed and the meeting ended at 6:34 p.m.
