RSU 23 superintendent announces OOB High principal resignation, new psychologist and Pre‑K enrollment

Superintendent John Suttie told the RSU 23 school board on March 20, 2025, that he had received a letter of resignation from Michael Rodriguez, Principal of OOB High School, and introduced Jennifer McVeigh as the district’s new school psychologist.
Suttie also reported several regular updates: a budget workshop was held the prior evening (video available on the Old Orchard Beach town website), three LMS teachers — Tisha Kuchta, John Nye and Heather Freeman — are scheduled to present on the middle school’s enrichment block at the New England League of Middle Schools conference, and 20 students were signed up for PreK as of the afternoon before the meeting. He noted a district book group is meeting on March 24 and reminded the board that a 6–8 grade dance is scheduled for tomorrow night.
Student representative Joana Massanga updated the board on extracurriculars: the Robotics club season has concluded, all winter sports are finished except boys basketball which qualified for states, spring sports start soon, the Outing Club will travel on April 6, five students were inducted into the National Honor Society this week, and Colby Thomas was named student of the month for March.
Committee updates included Building Needs committee activity reported by Donna Moutsatsos: roof and fire inspection documents were submitted, middle school tennis courts are being handled by the Recreation Department, high school courts will be resurfaced, the high school pavilion is finished, propane costs have decreased, and paving between Jameson and Loranger is planned for the summer. Craig Evans reported the Finance Committee reviewed monthly financials and found them generally on target but flagged health insurance as a major concern for next year; the final budget presentation is scheduled for April 17 and teacher negotiations are ongoing. Superintendent Suttie noted the Technology Committee did not meet this month.
The board approved the minutes from the February 12, 2025 meeting (motion by Donna Moutsatsos, seconded by Barbara Roberge) and later voted to adjourn at 6:22 p.m. (motion by Donna Moutsatsos, seconded by Santino Perrone).
