RSU 23 learns Loranger is third on state funding list; board discusses stadium tower and roofing bids

Superintendent John Suttie told the RSU 23 School Board on Dec. 21 that the district learned Dec. 13 the state is funding Loranger and that RSU 23 is now third on the list for state school construction funding.
"We found out on 12/13, that the State is funding Loranger and that we are now 3rd on the list," Suttie said, adding that schools behind RSU 23 cannot jump ahead except for those that did not file applications five years ago. The board discussed next steps and a possible application process.
The Building Needs committee reported several recent facility updates — parking-lot line painting and lighting upgrades at the high school and a condenser replacement at Jameson — and outlined ongoing work to improve Loranger’s ADA compliance and exterior lighting with potential rebates from Efficiency Maine.
The committee recommended continued study of a Stadium Tower Renovation, including fundraising, stakeholder input (PTO, athletics, band) and final design, and advised re-bidding the high school roofing project in early 2024 to better understand financial implications. The committee estimated these steps would be completed before April break to inform a recommendation to the full board.
