At a June 4, 2026 meeting at the Preston Plains Library, the Preston Public Schools Board of Education Finance Committee approved its May 7, 2026 meeting minutes and voted to forward the April 2026 financial report to the full Board for consideration on June 8, 2026. Kelly McNamara, BOE Finance Committee Chair, presided; Charles Raymond seconded key motions.
Finance Director Cynthia Varricchio presented the April 2026 BOE Financial Report and outlined which categories and line items are tracking over and under the FY2026 budget. Varricchio provided building-level breakdowns showing that certified-staff and paraeducator salary lines are currently underspent and explained that spring 2026 stipend payments had not yet been processed and therefore the stipend line will be further expended in the coming months.
BOF Liaison Thomas Wright requested additional detail on the salary variances; Varricchio answered by citing the building breakdowns and reiterating the timing of stipend payments. The committee recorded a motion by Kelly McNamara, seconded by Charles Raymond, to move the financial report to the full Board for its regular meeting on Monday, June 8, 2026. The transcript records the motion and its mover/second but does not record a roll-call tally for that motion in the segment.
Earlier in the meeting, Charles Raymond moved and McNamara seconded approval of the May 7 minutes; the minutes record that the motion carried, "Motion carried, all in favor, none opposed, no abstentions." The Finance Committee set its next meeting for July 9, 2026.
