The Board of Aldermen unanimously adopted text amendment KT285 to update the town's ordinance to recognize the most recent North Carolina Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) and to provide for future automatic recognition of subsequent map amendments. Catherine Garner told the board the change ensures the town remains in compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program and allows the town to reference updates dated Aug. 21, 2026 (and any later revisions) as they are adopted.
Garner also noted the update adds references to Forsyth and Guilford counties because Kernersville spans both counties and future map updates in Guilford could affect the town. No members of the public spoke for or against the change; the planning board had recommended approval at its June meeting and the board approved KT285 unanimously.
