Calumet approves engineering bid documents and awards city hall roof contract

Calumet’s City Council on Jan. 21 approved preparing standardized bid documents for pending city hall and library work and awarded a separate low bid for the city hall roof.
Andy of Bolten & Menk recommended the council approve bid documents so all contractors would bid the same scope for the city hall/library projects. Mayor Mike Troop moved to approve the Meyer Group Engineers agreement for bid documents at a cost of $9,700; the motion was seconded by Barbara Banks and carried.
On a separate procurement, Councilmember Dan Strand moved to accept the low bid from Range Cornice for the city hall roof in the amount of $198,464; Mayor Troop seconded and the motion carried. Council discussion noted questions about upfront funding and Andy said he would check into GAP financing and potential MNRW funding options for project cash flow.
The council also discussed the bank building (Clerk April Serich reported receiving a sales proposal from Nick of Edge of the Wilderness Realty) and tabled any sale decision, exploring leasing options and outreach to IEDC and Blandin for assistance.
The approved bid-document agreement and roof contract award move the city closer to formal procurement and construction; staff are to follow up on financing options and bid advertising as required by the procurement plan.
