A Goodwill Acadiana representative briefed the New Iberia council on free services the nonprofit provides in the nine-parish Acadiana region, including programs that support job placement, education and temporary crisis assistance.
Grama Stepanek, the organization’s director of marketing communications, told the council Goodwill offers free high-school-diploma programs, employment assistance (resume help and interview prep), crisis-assistance vouchers for residents facing short-term emergencies, and affordable housing properties (36 statewide and roughly 10 in the New Iberia area). "We do that for free for everybody in Acadiana," she said, and supplied informational handouts for residents and council members.
Why it matters: Council members thanked Goodwill for services that target unemployed residents, people who dropped out of school and those facing housing crises; one council member asked for contact information so constituents could be referred immediately.
Next steps: Goodwill left printed materials for distribution and offered to follow up with council staff to share contact details for referral partners and to coordinate outreach.
