The Buckeye City Council on July 7 authorized the city manager to execute agreements to produce design documents, public outreach and architectural-engineering services for a proposed North Library and Community Center (CIP project #107580) in Sun City Festival, in an amount not to exceed $1,362,700.
Bob Weisner of the Community Services Department told council the city will lease 2.5 acres from a church in Sun Valley under a long-term lease arrangement and expects the library to be about 13,000 square feet with roughly 3,000 square feet devoted to community-center uses. Weisner said the city received 12 proposals in response to an RFQ for architectural services, planned interviews later in the week and expected to select a design team before the end of the week.
Design work is expected to begin this fall and take about a year, Weisner said, with construction anticipated to start in the fall of 2027 and an opening in fall 2028. Council members praised staff for moving the long‑running project forward; one council member emphasized the project has been under consideration for many years and thanked staff for their work. Council then moved and approved the authorization unanimously.
The authorization allows CIP to execute the contracts needed to develop design documents and begin community outreach required before construction bids and subsequent contract phases.
