Thayne council approves subdivision to sell 4.21-acre lot to Mid Valley Fire District for new fire hall

The Town of Thayne council on Jan. 21 approved the Thayne North Addition Subdivision to create a 4.21-acre Lot 1 that will be sold to Mid Valley Fire District for a future fire hall. Mayor Simpson opened a public hearing at 6:01 p.m. and the hearing closed at 6:12 p.m.
Councilmember Heward moved to approve the subdivision application and authorize the mayor to sign the Mylar; Councilmember Pelletier seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The ordinance separates Lot 1 for sale and leaves Lot 2 as town property intended for future sewer expansion.
Kevin Voyles, representing Mid Valley Fire District, thanked the mayor and council and said the district is developing building plans and seeking funding for the new fire hall. Voyles noted construction-cost challenges but reiterated the district's commitment to remain within the town of Thayne. Assistant Chief Paul Peterson was noted as having attended a fire design conference where the district's progress was well-received.
The council discussed boundary and property-trade questions raised by resident Clark Price; Mayor Simpson said any sale or land-trade discussions beyond the subdivision approval would need to be addressed at a future meeting, possibly in executive session.
Next steps: the town will record the subdivision Mylar and the Mid Valley Fire District will continue design and funding work for the new fire hall.
