The Klamath County Board of Commissioners on April 14 approved salary and cost-of-living adjustments for leadership positions in the county's Community Corrections department.
Human Resources Director Sue Baumgart, joined by Dennis Holmes of Community Corrections, asked the board to authorize compensation changes intended to align leadership pay with non-union employees and keep supervisory roles competitive. Commissioner DeGroot moved to approve the outlined compensation and benefits; Commissioner Nichols seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Baumgart told the board that if salary compression occurs — where subordinate pay approaches or exceeds supervisory pay — HR, the commissioners' liaison, and department leadership will meet to determine a solution. The action was presented as a leadership recruitment and retention measure; no additional funding source or dollar amounts were specified in the presentation.
The approval was recorded as unanimous among the commissioners present. The board did not direct further amendments to the compensation plan at the meeting.
The next procedural step is implementation by HR and Community Corrections according to existing county payroll processes.
