Planning Director Andrew told the Blacksburg Planning Commission that a nominating committee will be appointed in August to develop a slate of candidates for the commission’s annual meeting, which the bylaws set for September. "We will have a nominating committee that will need to be appointed in August," Andrew said.
Andrew also proposed rescheduling a previously postponed retreat for Tuesday, Aug. 18 — the commission’s regular work-session time — and suggested the retreat could follow the commission’s prior potluck format. He clarified that a separate item (the drive-through window at 1800 Bridal Fork Road) would be considered at the next work session.
A commissioner reporting on the Town Council said the council held a work session that day of about two hours and 15 minutes during which the town attorney provided a zoning, planning and land-use refresher. "It was a kind of a huge refresher," the commissioner said, adding that the session would help council members who have not yet taken the training. The commissioner also noted ongoing construction around town and expressed hope much of it will wrap up when students return.
Next steps: the commission is expected to appoint the nominating committee in August and to discuss the drive-through CUP application and retreat details at upcoming work sessions.
