Sugar Hill Selectmen discuss reclaiming fire pond and adding dry hydrant for SHFD

The Sugar Hill Board of Selectmen on March 31 reviewed plans to reclaim a fire pond next to St. Matthews Church and install a dry hydrant to serve the SHFD.
Tyler Phillips, the project engineer, presented a map and described excavation work to remove sediment and muck from the pond. "The pond is an important water source for the department to have available," Chief Clark said, noting the department’s interest in preserving the site as a reliable water source. The original permit for the pond dates to 1967.
The board and attendees discussed drainage and overflow concerns related to the excavation. Phillips said a contractor has not yet been hired and that a DES Permit by Notification will be filed before work begins. Road Agent Doug Glover told the board he will install the dry hydrant once the pond reclamation is complete. Project participants said they anticipate work to take place in early fall.
Greg and Margo Connors attended the discussion to confirm the plan and ensure neighbors and the town were aligned on the scope of excavation and timing.
No formal motion or vote on contracting was recorded at the meeting; the board’s minutes note the plan and the permit requirement. The meeting adjourned at 6:07 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for April 7, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Crapo Building.
