Commission updates Sage Park paving, repairs and plans for cameras; work began after June council approval

Staff updated the commission July 9 on a multi‑year Sage Park paving and field rehabilitation project and on storm damage that has affected fields across town.
"It's been in work for 3 years," the meeting lead said when explaining why the paving appeared to have been scheduled quickly; "We went out to bid multiple times... Contractor was finally secured. They ended up taking the money from LOSIP for the bridges at the golf course and repurposed it for the paving at Sage Park. It was approved, at the June, like, 16th council meeting, and we started demolition on the 17th." The commission said demolition and initial work proceeded rapidly after that approval.
Work under way includes ripping out old curbing, replacing and adding catch basins, and re‑curbing before a finishing pass with a curbing machine and later line‑striping. Staff estimated the remaining phases would take about 4–6 weeks and noted crews have worked long hours in high heat.
Commissioners also discussed recent storm damage: a fallen tree damaged a gutter at Pettit, a tree was in right field at Beretta, and two fence sections were lost at Soccer West and the EHS track. Staff asked for photos to determine whether repairs fall to the town or to adjacent homeowners.
On enforcement and prevention, the commission debated signage and whether to include the police phone number on park signage. One commissioner cautioned that listing the police number could increase calls to an already short‑staffed dispatch; staff proposed outreach by social media and by direct communication with user groups as the first step. Staff also said they plan to meet with IT to discuss adding cameras focused on Pettit 1 and Pettit 2 and that Stage 1 and 2 cameras are expected to be operational by September if funding and IT scheduling permit.
The commission moved to accept the sign proofs and later voted to adjourn.
