The Cheltenham Finance Committee voted to approve the accounts paid report and the executive summary financial report for the period ending April 2026 and accepted the finance officer’s May 2026 report during its June 10 meeting.
Finance officer Melvin Pitts told the committee he expects the township to be "more so more than likely...right there" on its financial targets, explaining that timing of transactions (weekend workloads and month-start posting) pushed some receipts into the next month. "We offer a couple of thousand, and that's give and take," Pitts said of the current shortfall.
Pitts said he found roughly "about, like, 10" delinquent accounts left by his predecessor and has assigned follow-up work to a colleague. He told commissioners he is exploring additional avenues to collect funds and will report back when he has more detail. On the township’s relationship with CBIZ, Pitts clarified: staff provide accounts to CBIZ and CBIZ then proceeds on the township’s behalf rather than independently tracking delinquencies.
A commissioner asked whether the township is "on track"; Pitts reiterated that it likely is but that the speed of outside remittances (for example, local earned taxes from businesses) affects timing. Commissioners approved the April reports and the May finance officer report by voice vote.
No formal policy changes or collection decisions were made during the meeting; Pitts said he will bring further collection proposals to the committee when available.
