Cemetery Committee accepts annual report after updates on gravestone repairs and landscaping contracts

The Cemetery Committee voted to accept its annual cemetery report at a June 25 meeting after a parts-and-grounds presentation that detailed gravestone repairs, pending masonry work and landscaping contract performance.
Presenter (S5) told the committee Beyond the Gravestone has spent the last two weeks repairing gravestones at Wilcox Cemetery and reported the contractor’s work looks "absolutely beautiful." He said Randall Nelson has reset two brownstones at Maple Hill Cemetery and is working on additional stones but that the grounds crew must remove some cement and old bricks before more work can proceed. He also reported that Tad Masonry will rebuild two pillars at Christian Lane Cemetery, estimating the job at about $7,500 and that the contractor expected to complete the work around Sept. 1. "We are good to go for the next fiscal year of '27 to be able to spend up to $25,000 with Beyond the Gravestone and also with Nelson," the presenter said.
Committee members discussed invoicing and encumbrances. The Clerk (S3) said the committee account held $9,600 and noted that an $8,000 grant had been received; members said a $7,000 encumbrance was associated with masonry work. The Clerk stated that, "by ordinance," she must forward the probate portion of the annual report to the council. Members raised questions about whether some payments had posted and whether encumbrances reflected work already completed or contracts to be paid next fiscal year; the Clerk explained that encumbered funds are set aside even if the fiscal year is ending.
Presenter (S5) also updated the committee on the landscaping contract with Tenick Landscaping, saying crews have been mowing cemeteries, cul-de-sacs and roadside strips but that the transition after a change in staff has not been entirely smooth. He praised the crew leader Wayne for improving operations and said outstanding invoices for some jobs would be billed after July 1.
