Ocean Shores board readies carp derby, National Night Out tabling and a grants research team

"George called right before we came in today, and he will have all of the hot dogs... and to wait weigh all these fish," a member said while reviewing concessions and prize logistics. Board members said they are trying to get a Fish and Wildlife representative to collect samples for testing and, if necessary, freeze fish for transport to an outside lab.
Separately, the board agreed to staff a table at National Night Out (the Tuesday before the carp derby) to increase public visibility and recruit volunteers. Members discussed shift coverage, handing out flyers, and possibly displaying a boat or gear at the table. Chair (speaker 2) said the booth would run from about 5 to 7 p.m. and volunteers suggested rotating two-hour shifts.
On funding, members reviewed prior grant activity and a referenced $50,000 matching grant. They noted the application window for some grants had closed and proposed an ad-hoc group to identify available grants, determine requirements and coordinate with city staff or a college partner to prepare materials. The board identified a few members to help research grant options; staff who previously handled filings (Tim) is on leave.
No formal votes were taken on events or grants at this meeting; members assigned follow-up tasks and said they would finalize event details at the July/early-August meetings.
