Property maintenance: Alcon's Park roof contract set to begin mid‑July; library materials expected soon

Township property maintenance staff told commissioners on July 8 that the Alcon's Park roof contract is finalized and that work is expected to begin around July 16 or 17, with July 17 currently projected after rain delayed an earlier start.

Mister Brown delivered the report, saying the order for the Elkins Park Library roof materials was placed “a while ago” and that the company has assured the township the materials should arrive soon. He described ongoing coordination with the library board and the project manager and noted staff are monitoring delivery and on‑site material arrivals. “We should, fingers crossed, if everything goes well, barring weather, we should start this coming Tuesday,” he said.

A commissioner asked specifically whether the library materials would arrive after recent delays and noted the library’s HVAC outage that temporarily forced a closure. Brown said the HVAC issue appears to be fixed and that staff have met regularly with the project manager and even discussed the timeline with the contractor’s vice president to expedite the work.

Brown also reported localized stormwater infiltration in several township buildings after heavy rains but said public works located a stormwater drain above Cochran Pool and addressed the worst of last season’s concerns.

Why it matters: The roof projects protect township facilities that serve the public (recreation and library services); delivery timing affects when construction and facility improvements will begin and when service disruptions may occur.
