Committee approves LaLonde bid for Center Street reconstruction and authorizes Innovation Way extension bidding

The Special Public Works Committee on April 14 unanimously approved a low bid of $635,688.76 from LaLonde Construction to reconstruct Center Street and authorized public bidding for a partial extension of Innovation Way, with an alternate bid option to extend the entire roadway.

City Engineer Chris Walter told the committee that three bids were received for the Center Street project and identified LaLonde Construction as the lowest qualified bidder with a bid total of $635,688.76. "Three bids were received and the lowest qualified bidder was LaLonde Construction with a bid total of $635,688.76," Walter said.

The motion to approve the Center Street reconstruction bid was made by Alderperson Turchi and seconded by Alderperson Kirley; the committee recorded the motion as carried unanimously. For the Innovation Way item, Walter said the city has "a vested interest in supporting development within the Industrial Park" and asked the committee to authorize public bidding for a partial roadway extension from Western Drive, with an alternate to include the full extension. Alderperson Rusniak moved the authorization, Alderperson Kirley seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Walter said the committee will be updated once public bids are received.

The votes on both motions were recorded as unanimous in favor by the four alderpersons present. Present at the meeting were Alderpersons Garza, Kirley, Rusniak, and Turchi; City Administrator Steve Volkert and City Clerk Shanna Kreilkamp were also listed as present. The committee met in the Common Council Chambers at Hartford City Hall, 109 North Main Street.

Next steps: the Center Street contract award will proceed with the low qualified bidder as approved, and staff will initiate public bidding and report back to the committee when Innovation Way bid results are available.
