Silver Creek Township supervisors approved a temporary driveway permit for Xcel Energy to access 148th Street and cleared several routine financial and contracting items during their June 16 meeting.
The board voted 3-0 to allow Xcel Energy a temporary driveway onto 148th through Oct. 1, 2026, with conditions that Xcel restore the site to its original condition after work and repair any road damage. The approval followed consultation with township maintenance; the board required a pre-construction meeting between Xcel and township personnel before work begins.
The action came amid a series of largely unanimous procedural votes. Vice Chair Brandon Geyen moved and Supervisor Sandy Forsman seconded approval of a $129,604.15 disbursement, which carried 3-0. The board also approved several audit claims presented at the meeting, including a $105,787.50 payment to Knife River and smaller checks to Sara Nelson, Northstar Technology Solutions and Farrell Equipment & Supply.
Supervisors appointed Johan Massmann as a township head election judge at his prior wage by a 3-0 vote. The board approved Schmitz Excavating and Wruck Excavation as township subcontractors, but that motion carried 2-0 with Vice Chair Geyen recorded as abstaining.
Chairman Mike Helman said he and Supervisor Christensen had met with Security Bank and Trust about moving some township funds into a money-market account to earn higher interest. Vice Chair Geyen moved and Supervisor Forsman seconded authorizing account opening and transfers with an initial $500 deposit while keeping the township's CorTrust account open; the motion carried 3-0.
Maintenance provided an update on road projects: the Baker job has been delayed by weather and may start the following week, and chip-seal specifications for 150th Street are out; maintenance will solicit three bids and the board will hold a special meeting to approve the contract award.
Supervisors discussed upgrading alarms on township doors but, citing concern over proposed prices, agreed to table further action while staff seeks lower-cost alternatives.
The meeting closed after the board moved to adjourn; the motion carried 3-0 and the session ended at 8:24 p.m.
