Silver Creek board reappoints chair, raises pay, approves hiring postings and financial actions

At its Jan. 6, 2026 meeting, the Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors completed reorganizational business and approved several administrative and financial actions.
Supervisor Ryan Nelson moved to approve Mike Helman as chair and Supervisor Geyen as road boss; Andy Christensen seconded the motion and it carried (Helman abstained on this vote). The board kept current committee assignments and approved keeping the twice-monthly meeting schedule; it set township cleanup day for May 2, 2026.
The board voted to raise compensation in two steps: the board approved increasing the monthly pay for the chair and the road boss to $600 per month (Nelson moved, Christensen seconded; Helman abstained), and it approved raising maintenance pay to $38 per hour and increasing part-time plowing pay to $35 per hour (otherwise $30 per hour) (motion by Christensen, second by Forsman, carried 4-0).
The board approved a list of disbursements (motion by Nelson, second by Forsman, carried 4-0) and directed the treasurer to pay an overdue IRS balance (motion by Nelson, second by Christensen, carried 4-0). Maintenance reported that a 2023 John Deere tractor ordered from MN Equipment should arrive within a week, and board members praised maintenance crews for deicing roads after recent freezing rain.
On minutes and routine approvals, Nelson moved to approve meeting minutes from Nov. 6, 2025 (seconded by Christensen); that motion carried with three yes votes and one abstention by Supervisor Forsman. Nelson moved to approve Nov. 18, 2025 minutes (seconded by Christensen); that motion carried with two yes votes and two abstentions (Chair Helman and Forsman). Nelson moved to approve Dec. 16, 2025 minutes (seconded by Christensen); that carried 4-0.
The board voted to post two open positions (full-time maintenance and clerk/treasurer) on Indeed and authorized up to $500 in posting costs per position (motion by Nelson, second by Forsman; carried 4-0). Chair Helman asked to table driveway application and hall rental reviews because of time; the board agreed and adjourned at 9:17 p.m.
