Horicon Library Director Alex Harvancik to retire; Anna McCallum named successor

Alex Harvancik, Horicon’s Library Director, told the Common Council she is retiring after more than 30 years of service, with an effective retirement date of March 31, 2026. Harvancik reviewed her service history, including prior work as a police officer in the city, and thanked council members and the community for their support.
The Library Board selected Assistant Library Director Anna McCallum to succeed Harvancik. The council voted to approve McCallum as Library Director effective April 1, 2026 (motion by Remy, second by Bandsma; all voting Aye). McCallum said the library has hired a new part-time employee and is recruiting applicants for a Library Assistant position. She also announced plans for National Library Week — the last full week in April — including an open house, videos and book bingo.
The council’s action formalizes the board’s selection and allows the library to proceed with staffing and scheduled public events.
