Box Elder County approves zoning corrections, road vacation, cemetery‑board appointments and sheriff contract

The Box Elder County Commission approved several routine and land‑use items on June 10, including two rezonings, a road vacation, board appointments and an annual contract for court security.
Ordinance No. 656 corrects a prior rezoning (Ordinance No. 649) in the Tremonton area to remove a parcel that had been included inadvertently; Community Development Director Scott Lyons said the re‑enactment ensures only the intended properties are within the Agricultural Heritage Zone. Commissioner Lee Perry moved to adopt Ordinance No. 656; the motion passed unanimously (Vincent, Bingham, Perry — Yea).
The commission adopted Ordinance No. 652 to vacate the road and right‑of‑way mapped as 53400 West and 27200 North in the Clear Creek area; the Planning Commission previously reviewed and recommended the vacation. Commissioner Boyd Bingham moved to adopt Ordinance No. 652 and the motion carried unanimously.
Ordinance No. 653 rezoned about 514 acres in the Riverside and Fielding area from unzoned to Agricultural Heritage Zone (AHZ) to preserve farmland and two dairy operations; Lyons said the Planning Commission held public hearings with no opposition and recommended approval. Commissioner Bingham moved adoption and the ordinance was approved on a unanimous roll call.
The Clerk's Office reported four applicants for the three‑member East Garland Cemetery Board. Commissioner Perry moved to appoint Cory Ballard, Colleen Shaffer and Larry Hess as regular members and Dave Shaffer as a non‑voting member; the motion was approved on a roll call vote (Vincent, Bingham, Perry — Yea).
Under the Sheriff's Office item, Chief Deputy Sheriff Cade Palmer presented Contract #26‑25, the annual agreement with the State for court perimeter and bailiff services. Commissioner Perry asked whether state pay increases could be obtained through the legislative budget process; Palmer said the state fiscal budget cycle in July is when such requests would be made. Perry moved to approve the contract and the motion passed unanimously.
Vote tallies: Most motions at the meeting passed unanimously by a 3–0 roll‑call vote (Chairman Tyler Vincent, Commissioner Boyd Bingham, Commissioner Lee Perry). The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
