Troy — The Troy City Council on July 9 approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to purchase a surplus 2007 American LaFrance rescue pumper from the Averill Park‑Sand Lake Fire District for $50,000 on a single‑source basis.
Council asked whether the purchase was already budgeted; an administration representative said it was not yet budgeted and that staff would have to identify or transfer funds later. A council member asked about the truck’s useful life; a Fire Department official explained the department keeps older apparatus for parts and that some American LaFrance vehicles are used as parts vehicles while frontline units are newer. Council members noted market estimates but concluded the price appeared reasonable.
The resolution passed unanimously, recorded as 7‑0. The administration said it will return if a formal budget transfer is necessary to complete the purchase.
What happens next: Administration will identify funding or return for authorization of a budget transfer and will manage eventual disposal (auction or parts) of the older apparatus when it reaches end of life.
