Franklin County commissioners back Brookville’s opportunity‑zone nomination

A staff presenter outlined that Brookville’s qualifying tract sits primarily on the town and must be filed with the Indiana Association of Development Councils (IADC) by July 17. The presenter said the tract overlaps Brookville and noted federal census tract boundaries determine eligibility.
"Brookville qualified for one, and it's about to run out in about 2 years," the presenter said, urging support. Commissioners discussed how the eligible tract was determined and why Metamora was not included.
John Heiss moved to provide a letter of support; the motion was seconded and approved by the commission. The presenter asked commissioners to sign one copy and directed staff to forward the document to the town of Brookville for submission.
Why it matters: Opportunity Zone designation can make investment incentives available for development in the nominated tract; county endorsement is part of the town’s submission packet. The exact census tract number was left blank in the draft and staff said they will confirm and complete it before filing.
