The Beaman City Council voted unanimously on Jan. 15 to adopt RES 2026-01 appointing Mindy Ashton to fill the mayoral vacancy created by the resignation of Ann Smith. Council member Rhonda Rego moved the resolution and Brandon Schleisman seconded; the motion passed with four recorded ayes (Brockman, Rego, Scafferi, Schleisman).
City Clerk Denise Hoy administered the Oath of Office to Mindy Ashton, who then presided over the remainder of the meeting as mayor. The resolution states the appointment will expire Dec. 31, 2027, following the next regular election.
During her first official action Mayor Mindy Ashton announced committee assignments: Finance—Brandon Schleisman and Rhonda Rego; Personnel (including the Fire Department)—Barry Brockman and Rhonda Rego; Infrastructure (streets, alleys, water & sewer)—Jason Scafferi and Brandon Schleisman; Parks, Buildings & Safety—Hoss Tompkins and Jason Scafferi; Landfill Commission—Hoss Tompkins; Emergency Management & 911—Jason Scafferi and Fire Chief Bryan Moeller; Development Alliance—Barry Brockman.
Why it matters: The appointment fills the council’s top elected position through the next regular election and immediately realigns committee leadership that oversees budgeting, public safety, utilities and development projects. The council recorded no dissent on the appointment and moved quickly to committee assignments.
The council did not schedule further public hearings related to the appointment. No additional actions on the mayoral office were recorded at the meeting.
