Union City Borough holds public hearing on proposed zoning changes to regulate "redemption games"

Union City Borough Council held a public hearing Sept. 16 to solicit comment on a proposed amendment to Zoning Ordinance No. 1118 that would define and regulate permitted-use zones for “redemption games” (also described in the notice as "games of skill") and add Section 701.04 to permit the use of accessory structures on adjoining lots, the council recorded.

Councilor Cross called the hearing to order at 6:05 p.m. at First Global Methodist Church, 42 East High Street. Councilors Cross, Osborn, Steadman and Kerns were listed as present; Councilors Joyce, Winkler and Uber were recorded as absent. Solicitor Tim Wachter and Constituent Services Representative Kim Tuszynski were listed among officials present.

The notice before the council said the amendment would (1) provide definitions and regulations for permitted-use zones for redemption games, (2) add Section 701.04 to provide for use of accessory structures on adjoining lots, and (3) include a repealer, severability clause and an effective date. No members of the public attended to offer comment, according to the meeting record. With no public testimony, Councilor Steadman moved to adjourn the hearing; Councilor Osborn seconded the motion. The hearing adjourned at 6:09 p.m.
