Union City Borough councilors on July 23 voted unanimously to adopt a resolution authorizing an application to the PBDA for Broadband Ready Community designation and to designate the Erie Area Council of Governments as the borough’s municipal broadband champion.
The minutes note a public meeting on broadband was held earlier (5:45 PM) and that no members of the public attended. The resolution authorizes staff to pursue the Broadband Ready Community application and to have Erie Area Council of Governments act as the municipal broadband champion for Union City Borough.
Councilor James Kerns moved to adopt the resolution and Councilor Melissa Winkler seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The minutes do not include the full text of the resolution or a timetable for the application process; staff will coordinate with Erie Area COG and the PBDA on next steps.
The action gives the borough the administrative authority to proceed with an application and to work with the regional council of governments on broadband planning efforts.
