SCMUA pitches state-funded Recycle Coach tool to Ogdensburg to raise county recycling rates
Summary
Dawn Latincsics of the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority presented Recycle Coach, a NJDEP-funded outreach and education tool, to Ogdensburg council on Oct. 12, saying the program will help residents learn what can and cannot go in recycling and could lift the borough's recycling rate.

Dawn Latincsics, SCMUA Recycling Coordinator, told the Ogdensburg Borough Council on Oct. 12 that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is funding Recycle Coach for countywide use and that the tool is intended to educate residents about what is and is not acceptable in curbside recycling.
Latincsics said Ogdensburg is among the three lowest-recycling municipalities in Sussex County and that the program’s features are designed to increase proper sorting and therefore raise recycling rates. She emphasized that the initiative is educational — "we taught our resident to recycle and now we want to tell them how to recycle correctly" — and described outreach and promotion options for local implementation.
Council members and members of the public asked questions about outreach and education strategies. Latincsics said the program is available statewide through NJDEP support and encouraged coordination with county-wide recycling efforts.
The council did not take action at the meeting; SCMUA representatives will work with borough staff on next steps for local promotion and implementation.
