The Borough of Ogdensburg on May 11 approved an employment agreement appointing Joseph V. Sanfilippo as chief of police, effective May 1, 2026. The council adopted Resolution 55‑2026 in a roll call vote after a motion by Councilman DeMeo and a second by Councilman Ciasullo; Yeas: Ciasullo, DeMeo, Gandarinho, Lame; Abstain: Cowdrick; Absent: Gordon.
The appointment follows the borough’s receipt of a Civil Service eligible list and certification (certification number PL260648) for the promotional title of Police Chief (Title Code 02719, Symbol PM4453F). The four‑year employment agreement covers the period May 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2031, and authorizes the mayor and borough clerk to execute the contract on behalf of the borough.
Chief Sanfilippo gave a brief update during liaison reports that officers have attended training classes and that the department circulated information on the Blue Envelope Program; he said patrol activity and summons issuance have increased. Councilman DeMeo offered congratulatory remarks to Sanfilippo, saying "good luck and God bless."
The council scheduled a special meeting for May 18 at the Ogdensburg Fire House at 7:00 p.m. for the formal oath of office and promotion ceremony.
