Board honors Lopez Lake rangers and Good Samaritan for lifesaving CPR

San Luis Obispo County supervisors on Oct. 22 presented a resolution recognizing the actions of park rangers and a Good Samaritan who intervened during a July 19 medical emergency at Lopez Lake.
Supervisor Paulding (speaker 7) read the resolution commending Good Samaritan Jim Adams and Park Rangers Josh Moore, Cassie Berger and Jessica Wagner for performing early cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator intervention that county staff said resulted in the patient's transfer to SLO ambulance services and full recovery.
Craig Dupree, supervising ranger at Lopez Lake (speaker 12), described the sequence: "When the patron became unconscious, Jim quickly began chest compressions shortly after Josh, Cassie and Jessica arrived and joined to provide additional compressions, breathing support and use an automated external defibrillator, ultimately saving the patron's life." Board members offered public praise, with Supervisor Paulding thanking the Good Samaritan and rangers and Supervisor Gibson saying their actions "give me a lot of hope." The board presented the signed resolution and posed for photographs.
The recognition highlights parks staff training and the presence of rangers at remote county facilities; staff said the recorded response exemplifies the department's commitment to public safety.
The board moved on after the brief presentation; no formal policy action was taken beyond the resolution and public appreciation.
