School official updates council on construction, meter problems; cemetery water tie‑in discussed

At the Feb. 5 Bicknell Town Council meeting, Sean, representing the local school district, updated the council about ongoing construction at the new high school and elementary campus and raised operational issues that could affect town services.
Sean said much of the heavy machinery and ironwork is in place and that the district expects construction to be finished roughly a year from now, with elementary students moved into the new building in the summer. He described the decision to include a full-size elementary gym based on constituent requests and available funding.
On operations, Sean reported concerns about a water meter near the school that ‘‘is like 300 gallons’’ on readings and said technicians and the district plumber would be asked to investigate. Council members and staff acknowledged the discrepancy and noted that if meters are corrected the school could face a large bill for previously unmetered usage. Maureen said staff would follow up and technicians/plumbers are expected to inspect and repair meters.
Council members also discussed tying the new business-park water line into the town’s cemetery irrigation to improve watering before Memorial Day. Steve and others noted the business-park water line is nearer to the cemetery than prior options, and members asked staff to explore tying into the new line once construction allows.
Other routine operational items included: - SCADA system status: staff reported SCADA was back online and the tanks were operating normally. - Meters and meter-reader devices: staff said they would continue diagnostics and change ports or do splices as needed. - A CDBG-funded greenhouse was approved for order (Carrie reported CDBG approval and a donation to cover installation).
What’s next Council directed staff to pursue meter repairs and to follow up on the cemetery tie-in when the business-park water line is complete; staff will report back at upcoming meetings.
