Commission hears parks maintenance and program updates including Hoogland completion and bridge repairs

Assistant City Manager/Finance Director Kevin Plockmeyer briefed commissioners on several parks updates: Hoogland Park reconstruction is complete with only a few punch-list items remaining; the city recorded 82 park rentals in 2025 (59 public, 23 city events); and staff plan to recommend awarding a bid for painting the Lawrence Park Bowl at the next City Council meeting.
Plockmeyer said contractors have been managing vegetation at Paw Paw Footbridge Park, focusing on sumac removal, and that staff are arranging replacement lights after fire damage to the bridge lighting.
Commissioner Thom Parker asked whether vegetation removal had affected the Paw Paw Footbridge plantings; Plockmeyer said contractors continue regular maintenance and that prairie plantings completed in the fall are expected to establish in spring. No decisions or votes were recorded on these items beyond routine project management updates.
