County recognizes caregivers, poet laureate and Latino Outreach scholarship recipients

At its Oct. 29 meeting the Board of Supervisors proclaimed November 2024 Family Caregivers Appreciation Month, honored Caleb Nichols as San Luis Obispo County poet laureate, and presented Latino Outreach Council scholarship recognitions to student recipients and longtime volunteers.
The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors used part of its Oct. 29 meeting to issue several community recognitions.
Supervisor Paulding read a resolution proclaiming November 2024 as Family Caregivers Appreciation Month in San Luis Obispo County, noting the county’s 2,271 IHSS caregivers and urging community support for those providing long‑term in‑home care.
The board also recognized Caleb Nichols as county poet laureate for a two‑year term beginning in 2025. Nichols, a lecturer and PhD graduate, read a short poem at the podium and supervisors and staff congratulated him and the Arts Council on re‑establishing the laureate program.
Finally, the board honored recipients of the Latino Outreach Council “Pioneers Change Shaping the Future” scholarships. Representatives from the council and Cuesta College thanked supervisors for ongoing partnership; one student in attendance, Alexia Ruiz, spoke briefly about plans to pursue an associate’s degree in business through Cuesta.
These items were presented without controversy and were followed by applause and photographic recognition.
